Boys and Girls Club Name 2016 Youth of the Year

Boy and Girls ClubMASHPEE – The Boys and Girls Club of Cape Cod celebrated their 2016 Youth of the Year recipient in a ceremony this week.

Mashpee High School senior Justin Rose was selected for exemplifying the ideals of the Boys and Girls Club and will receive a $1,500 scholarship toward his college education.

Mashpee junior Anna Larsson and Mashpee senior Domenic Cassell join Rose as the club’s finalists for Youth of the Year. Both will receive $1,000 in scholarship funds.

The scholarships were funded by the Mashpee Men’s Club.

“We are so proud of these three amazing young people,” said Boys and Girls Club Board President Jim Kiley. “They are shining examples of what we expect, and hope for, all of our young kids.”

The annual Youth of the Year selection process is a nationwide effort. Each club nominates their Youth of the Year, who then go to compete at the statewide, regional, and national level.

Recipients are chosen based on several criteria, including service to the club, community, and family, strong moral character, success in school, poise, and public speaking ability. Finalists write essays as part of the selection process on what the Boys and Girls Club means to them and on the value of higher education.

All three finalists will be recognized at the Boys and Girls Club Annual Awards Gala at the Coonamesset Inn in Falmouth on Thursday, June 16.
