Boys & Girls Club’s New Programming Space Opened

MASHPEE – The new Bill and Lillian Sandler Program Rooms that opened last night at the Boys & Girls Club of Cape Cod mark a significant development at the facility.Boys

“This is the first time the Boys and Girls Club has added on program space since the building went up in 1999, which allows us to do more high impact small group programming around things like nutrition and drug and alcohol resistance,” Ruth Provost, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club, said.

Bill and Lillian Sandler, whose gift allowed the facility to add on the space, have supported the Boys & Girls Club since it started, according to Provost.

Bill Sandler knows the value of having somewhere where kids can go to find a safe place and caring adults, according to a prepared statement on the gift. He grew up in a tough neighborhood in Boston and found support there at a local youth center.

The Sandlers have been married for over 74 years and spend their time between Cape Cod and Palm Beach.

“We are so grateful for Bill and Lillian’s support of our kids!” Provost added.   “They are actively involved in the charities they support, both here and in Florida.  Bill stops by the Boys & Girls Club regularly to see what’s going on and talks about the good work we do with his friends and neighbors – and even held his 99th and 100th Birthday Party to help our kids. He and Lillian are a great example of how dual-home owners can support Cape charities.  It’s hard to remember when you are only here in the summer that year-round Cape families struggle to make ends meet, but Bill always remembers and always helps.”

For 17 years, the Boys & Girls Club of Cape Cod has provided positive alternatives to unsupervised out-of-school time and education programs for Cape Cod children running an essentially free afterschool program and an affordable summer day camp open to any Cape Cod child or teen, age 6-18.

The Club provides programs for more than 825 boys and girls in the areas of character and leadership development, educational enhancement, career preparation, health and life skills, the arts and sports, fitness and recreation.  The membership fee is just $75 for the school year for kids in grades 1- 6.

The Teen program runs from 2-8 or 10 pm during the school year and the teen membership fee for grades 9-12 is just $5.  Grades 7 & 8 can attend either the High School Teen Program or the Clubhouse program, and their membership is dependent on which program they use.
