Woman Found Shot At Route 6 Rest Area in Barnstable

PoliceBARNSTABLE – The body of a woman, the apparent victim of gunshot and knife wounds, was found dead in the roadway at a Route 6 rest area early this morning.

District Attorney Michael O’Keefe said the case is being investigated as a homicide.

He said the victim is between 28 and 32 and her family has been notified. He is not releasing her name yet.

He said police believe the crime was committed at the rest area. According to the district attorneys office, she was shot and stabbed multiple times. No weapon has been found.

State police assigned to the district attorney’s office, Barnstable police and other agencies are involved in the investigation.

Investigators, O’Keefe said, “are working many different areas of the Cape.”

They were still processing the scene as of noon and numerous pieces of evidence have been found.

O’Keefe and Barnstable Police Chief Paul MacDonald announced today that at approximately 4 a.m., a motorist alerted police to a body in the rest area east bound between exits 6 and 7 on Route 6.

State police were on scene at 4:15 a.m.

Crime scene services of the State Police are on scene as well as other related personnel.
