Brewster Breaks Ground on $13 Million Fire Headquarters

BREWSTER –The Brewster Fire Department broke ground Thursday on their new fire station.

The $13 million dollar headquarters will be built behind the current facility on Route 6A.

Voters approved a $13.4 million debt exclusion a year ago for the project.

The planned 22,000 square foot facility will feature 5 bays and allow for all of the station’s equipment to be kept under one roof.

Brewster Fire Chief Robert Moran said that’s a first for his team.

The new station has been years in the making, with the first discussion going back to the early 2000’s.

“With today’s groundbreaking ceremony, we’re very lucky that the residents worked hard to approve this for us,” said Moran.

“We’re going to build a facility that usable for first responders and for the town for the next 40 to 50 years, so we’re pretty excited about it,” he said.

The facility will be modern inside, but still maintain a traditional Cape Cod look as the building sits in a historic district.

Construction will begin this spring, with a 14 month completion schedule.

“I think we need to step back and thank so many people, but really it is the townspeople who have been convinced of the necessity of this project and will benefit for decades,” said Brewster Selectman James Foley.

Local officials, members of the fire station building committee, fire department personnel, residents, and representatives of Pomroy Associates (owner’s project manager), CDR Maguire (Architects), and Delphi Construction (General Contractor) were all on hand for the groundbreaking.

Project Manager Rick Pomroy said the project has been in the works for several years.

“We signed our contract with the town in November of 2013 and since that time, we’ve had a lot of long hours working together with the town and with the chief,” said Pomroy.

He said they were looking forward to the completion sometime next year.
