Brewster, Chatham Stay Alive in Cape League Playoffs

CHATHAM – The Cape League Eastern Division semi-finals will come down to two decisive games Monday night after Brewster and Chatham pulled out home victories on Sunday.

The Anglers defeated Orleans 3-1 Sunday after falling in game 1of the best-of-three series 7-2 on Saturday. Game 3 is 6 p.m. Monday at Eldridge Park in Orleans.

The defending champion Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox stormed back from 2 runs down in the 9th inning Saturday to defeat Brewster 8-5 on a walkoff 3 run homer by Carlos Cortes. Brewster fought off elimination Sunday with a 6-1 victory at home. Game 3 is 4 p.m. Monday in Yarmouth.

In the West, Bourne and Wareham advanced with series sweeps over Cotuit and Falmouth, respectively.

The Braves defeated the Kettleers 6-3 in 11 innings Sunday after play was suspended Saturday night in Cotuit due to darkness. The Braves then completed the sweep with a 4-2 game 2 victory.

Wareham found their grove after stumbling down the stretch in the regular season, eliminating the top-seeded Commodores 10-5 and 4-3.

Bourne and Wareham begin their division championship series Tuesday night.
