BREWSTER – One Lower Cape faith community is responsible for a major boost to three nonprofits.
The Brewster Baptist Church holiday fair last month raised $33,000 – 100 percent of which will be donated to three nonprofits dedicated to the housing issues on Cape Cod.
The Church will present Habitat for Humanity with an $18,000 check, and $9,000 each will be given to the Lower Cape Outreach Council and CHAMP Homes.
Pastor Doug Scalise said that the fair requires about 100 volunteers to work for months in preparation.
“Part of what we try to do is look at the needs and issues on the Cape we can assist with, and also give some publicity to by making those organizations the recipients of our event,” Scalise said.
The donation to Habitat for Humanity is only part of a $55,000 pledge the church made to the organization to construct one of their houses in Brewster.
Previous fairs have benefitted Gosnold on Cape Cod and its middle school drug prevention program.
