Brewster Couple Honors Boston Bombing Victims with Crystal Memorials

Marathon MemorialBREWSTER – A Brewster couple has lead an effort to have two crystal memorial sculptures created to honor the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.

Ralph and Rose Ingegneri met Waterford crystal master engraver Sean Egan five years ago during a trip in Ireland and were impressed with his work on a commissioned piece for the 10th anniversary of the World Trade Center attack.

The Ingegneri’s, shocked by the events on April 15, 2013, contacted Egan after the incident in an attempt to honor the victims.

Egan worked on creating two crystal memorial sculptures, measuring three feet wide and one foot tall.

First Barnstable State Representative Tim Whelan is assisting in finding a placement for one of the crystal memorials and Michael Fitzgerald, a member of the Brewster Finance Committee, helped form a committee with the Ingegneri’s.

“It’s just a good, rewarding feeling that we were able to pull this together and to get so many people to help us with the project,” said Rose Ingegneri.

The committee wants to raise $100,000 to pay for the materials for the crystal memorials, with money leftover going to the bombing victims and survivors.

One of the crystal memorials will be placed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and will include the engraved face of Sean Collier, the MIT police officer killed after the incident.

The other crystal memorial of the other victims will be presented to Boston Mayor Marty Walsh.

“I feel good about doing something to honor those that were so tragically killed and for those that were seriously injured,” said Ingegneri.

Both sculptures will be presented before the 2016 Boston Marathon next week.
