BREWSTER – Weeds and invasive species will be the focus of a workshop this weekend in Brewster.

The Brewster Pond Coalition will offer the event for the second year in a row, after receiving many requests for another run this year.

The program will be led by Aquatic Ecologist for the Mass Department of Conservation and Recreation Tom Flannery. He’ll explain how invasive species of plants and animals can harm local ecosystems, and how difficult they can be to eradicate.

Much of the workshop will allow participants an in-person exercise in identification. Attendees are encouraged to bring in invasive plants from their own local ponds.

The event will take place on Saturday, June 4th at 10 a.m. at the First Parish Brewster, 1969 Main Street.
