Brewster Residents Approve School Consolidation at Special Town Meeting

BREWSTER – Brewster Special Town Meeting voters last night approved a citizen’s petition article that calls for the consolidation of the Stony Brook and Eddy Elementary Schools.

Residents Helga Dyer and Adam Lange filed the article, which also calls for one of the schools to be turned into a community center.

The article is non-binding and the final decision on consolidation is still up to the school committee.

Voters also approved $235,000 to spend on a feasibility study on the consolidation and the locations for a new community center.

An article that called for a municipal plastic bottle ban also passed Special Town Meeting.

Starting in September, the town is prohibited from buying plastic bottles with some exceptions.

There were 12 articles on the warrant.
