BREWSTER – A recent meeting of the Brewster Select Board put forward some potential solutions to the issue of what will be done with the property of the former Cape Cod Sea Camps.
Though private development is an option, many in the town are against it.
If developed, agencies such as the Cape Cod Commission have put restrictions on what can and cannot be done with the land.
Another potential solution discussed was the town seizing the property through eminent domain.
“The Select Board is concerned, at this point, that these properties may be privately developed,” explained Town Administrator Peter Lombardi, “and they feel strongly that Brewster voters deserve the opportunity to determine if the town should acquire the sea camps.”
A special town meeting to be held in late September will be announced in more detail in August.
At the special town meeting, more details of potential solutions would be discussed, such as whether one or both sea camps properties would be purchased.
