BREWSTER – After nearly three decades on the job, Brewster Town Administrator Charles Sumner is retiring.Sumner 3

Sumner has held the position since 1986, when the population of Brewster was about 6,000. He plans to retire sometime next fall.

“The selectmen have been great to me. This has been a great community to live and work in,” Sumner said. “I want to make sure that we have a process that gives the selectmen adequate time to find a replacement. It’s important to the town, it’s important to me.”

Sumner said he’s seen a lot of change during his tenure, and is hoping a conclusion can be reached on one elusive project before his retirement, “The one issue that remains a concern and a project that we’ve worked on for almost 14 years now is our fire station. I really would like to hopefully come to a conclusion on what we’re going to do with the fire station project.”

Sumner added he plans to continue living in Brewster with his family after his retirement.
