Brewster Voters Forum to Focus on Pot Shops, Property Purchase

BREWSTER – A citizen’s forum will be held Thursday night at the Brewster Ladies Library to update residents on a number of upcoming articles at Town Meeting.

The Brewster Community Network will hold a discussion on two issues before voters. The first pertains to the town’s policy on recreational marijuana shops and the second is the proposal to buy a property on Paines Creek Road for a new beach parking lot.

There are two articles on the warrant related to the marijuana shops. One would place a temporary moratorium on the use of town land for recreational marijuana shops while another would ban the establishments outright.

The town is looking at spending $195,000 to buy a vacant residential property for conservation purposes and the construction of a new parking lot. The parcel is currently owned by the Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, which is working with the Brewster Conservation Trust on the proposed sale.

Organizers say the event will offer differing points of view on both issues.

The forum runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Brewster Town Meeting is November 13.
