British Man Pleads Not Guilty in Incident on Plane

GavelBOSTON (AP) — A British man has pleaded not guilty after he allegedly became belligerent on an international flight, hit a woman traveling with him and urinated on the plane’s seats and floor.

Darren Halliwell was arraigned Thursday on charges of disorderly conduct, assault and battery and disrupting the operation of an aircraft. A British Airways flight from London to Houston was diverted Wednesday to Boston.

Prosecutors said Halliwell was drunk and began yelling at a 14-year-old passenger traveling with her family. They said he became aggressive when flight attendants tried to calm him and struck his female companion in the face with the back of his hand.

The 46-year-old Halliwell is from Aspull, a village in Greater Manchester, England.

Halliwell’s lawyer did not immediately return a call seeking comment
