Buddy Walk by the Sea to Raise Awareness and Funds for Down Syndrome

Buddy WalkHYANNIS – Hundreds will come together in Hyannis on Sunday for the 6th Annual Buddy Walk by the Sea hosted by the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress.

Individuals with Down syndrome, family members and friends from across Cape Cod, the Islands and Southeastern Massachusetts will join to raise awareness and funds to support programs and advocacy work.

“We’re really excited about having a new location in downtown Hyannis,” said Josh Komyerov, the communications director for the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress.

Registration for the event includes the 1.2 mile walk, event t-shirt, a light pre-walk breakfast and refreshments after the walk.

Other festivities include a performance by the Toe Jam Puppet Band and an auction and raffle.

“We’re expecting we are going to have hundreds of families out there and we’re just hoping for good weather,” Komyerov said.

The MSDC promotes the inclusion and acceptance of all individuals with Down syndrome in the state.

Komyerov said a lot of progress has been made for individuals with Down syndrome over the last few decades.

“If you look at life expectancy, it’s gone up dramatically where people are living to well over 60 years old these days,” Komyerov said.

Komyerov said the educational opportunities are also more abundant.

“We want to continue that trend and make sure people are included in all aspects of life,” he said.
