CENTERVILLE – There was an increase in building activity on Cape Cod last month, according to the latest numbers made available by the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Cape Cod.
The group says the total value of residential building work on the Cape in January was over $52.1 million, up from $47.5 million in January of 2017. That represents a 9.7 percent increase.
The total number of building permits issued in January was 419, up from 400 in January of 2017.
The total value of new construction on Cape Cod shot up 25 percent from last year, from $21.5 million to $27 million. The average cost of new construction this year was $466,850, compared to $326,845 in January 2017.
There were 8 fewer new builds this year compared to last year.
The total amount spent on remodeling projects rose 15 percent from $21.7 million to $25.1 million. The average remodeling cost ticked up 5 percent in January 2018 to $69,542 from $66,213.
