Building Activity Increases on Cape Cod

CENTERVILLE – Residential building activity picked up on Cape Cod last month, according to the latest numbers from the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Cape Cod.

There were 417 residential building permits issued in Barnstable County in July, up from 370 at the same time last year. The total value of the projects was over $44 million, up from $39 million in 2017.

The majority of the permits issues were for remodels. The cost of the 370 projects came in just under $17 million, up from the $15 million spent on 319 remodeling projects last year.

The cost for new building projects went up significantly. The average price for new builds was $583,600, compared to $432,800 in 2017. There were 47 new building projects in 2018, compared to 45 last year.
