Cable Cord-Cutting Workshops Continue Friday

YARMOUTH – Several Cape Cod legislators are seeking to inform the public about cost saving alternatives to cable television as a series of Cord-Cutting Workshops continues Friday.

An interactive presentation, created by State Representative Randy Hunt (R-Sandwich), aims to educate Cape Codders on how to save on monthly cable and satellite television bills by learning about over-the-air programming, along with streaming equipment – like Apple TV and Roku – and streaming services, including Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu.

“We were asked over and over and over again what can we do right now to save money on our TV, entertainment and telephone expenses,” Hunt said.

The workshops are a collaboration between Hunt, state representatives Sarah Peake (D-Provincetown), Will Crocker (R-Centerville) and Tim Whelan (R-Brewster), and Cape and Islands State Senator Julian Cyr (D-Truro), along with local senior centers and councils on aging, and libraries.

The seminars tomorrow are from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and 3 to 4 p.m. at the Yarmouth South Library.

The last workshop is scheduled for March 23 at the Harwich Community Center from 11 a.m. to noon.

Hunt will walk attendees through some of the options, explain how they work and how much they cost.

The presentation includes a live demonstration and Q&A session.

“We do have ways that you can save money on your cable bills,” Hunt said. “You can look into streaming. It all depends on what you want to see and how much you want to spend.”

Hunt said some options can save residents $50 a month, $100 a month, or even more.

“There are so many options that are now available that were not available a few years ago,” said Crocker. “These workshops will provide the consumer with the information and technology necessary to make the choice that best fits their situation when it comes to internet, cable TV and telephone service.”

Peake said, “This is an important issue for many of my constituents.”
