CACCI Accepting Turkey and Basket Donations for Cape Codders

HYANNIS – The Community Action Committee of Cape Cod and Islands is facilitating this year’s “Thanksgiving Baskets for Cape Codders”.

The effort encourages individuals, clubs, organizations and businesses to “adopt a family” or a number of families and provide a frozen Thanksgiving turkey and/or basket or multiple frozen turkeys and/or baskets.

Between baskets, turkeys and gift cards, a total of 215 families were served last year and organizers say that the need increases each year.

“We are very, very, very fortunate to have so many generous donors in the community and so many absolutely fabulous volunteers who help us sort of bridge the gap between the folks who are in need on one hand and the supplies and the generosity of Cape Cod on the other,” said Collin Mickle, who oversees the Thanksgiving baskets program.

Ben & Jerry’s on Main Street in Hyannis will serve as a drop-off point for frozen turkeys and assembled baskets now until Saturday.

“The greatest balancing act is that the number of families we are taking care of with a basket equals the number of people who are donating and this is a juggling act,” said co-chair Judy Scarafile.

Those wishing to donate can visit cacci.cc for more information.

To sign up to receive a Thanksgiving dinner, call the CACCI general office.

Baskets will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.
