Cahoon Hollow Beach Parking Lot Opened for the Summer

WELLFLEET – The Cahoon Hollow Beach parking lot will be open this summer after having been closed last year due to extensive erosion.

The Town of Wellfleet has reached an agreement with the owners of the neighboring Beachcomber Bar and Restaurant to lease the space allowing for both customer and beach-goer parking through the summer season.

The agreement went into effect on Friday and will continue until November 1st, with the Beachcomber providing just over $50,000 in compensation to the town.

There was only a single lease offer made on the 80 space lot, which in the past had generated more than $90,000 in revenue for the Wellfleet.

Town officials had previously agreed to close the parking lot for the summer citing stability concerns after a heavy rain storm last season opened a large hole in the parking lot and dune which consumed a small car. Opting the past February to seek leasing offers.

Under the terms of the deal the restaurant owners agree to provide public toilets and keep five spaces clear for town or emergency vehicles.

Drivers with either a Wellfleet Beach Sticker or a Beachcomber Parking Pass will be allowed to utilize the lot free of charge while others will have to pay a $20 dollar fee, in return for which the will receive a $20 Beachcomber voucher.
