Cahoon Museum Opens for the Season

COTUIT – The Cahoon Museum of American Art in Cotuit has reopened for the 2019 season and will feature ten exhibits throughout the year.

The museum has opened with Twenty-One in Truro: Celebrating the Cahoon Museum Collection.

In recognition of the twenty-first anniversary of the artists group Twenty-One in Truro, the museum invited the group’s members to each create a work of art in response to a selection of paintings from the Museum’s significant holding of American art.

The exhibit runs through May 24 with an opening reception scheduled for April 12.

Another featured exhibit beginning this spring is Exquisite Shells: The Art of Sailors Valentines. The exhibit runs from May 24 through September 1.

This international exhibition highlights the Sailors Valentine, a unique and intricate art form finely crafted from seashells.

The surprising history of the art form is explained and brought to life through antique Sailors Valentines made between 1830 and 1890 in Barbados.
