COTUIT – Paintings never before exhibited on Cape Cod and rarely shown elsewhere will be displayed at the Cahoon Museum of American Art to celebrate the career of an early-20th century painter who was deeply inspired by Cape Cod.
An 85-painting retrospective of Paul Moro will be shown from Wednesday, March 15th through Sunday, April 30th.
Moro was born in 1886 and travelled extensively to Cape Cod and Europe, including his home country of Italy.
His Impressionistic, Post-Impressionistic, and Realistic treatments of pastoral landscapes, people, and cityscapes were heavily informed by his time on Cape Cod and elsewhere.
The exhibit was organized by Moro’s descendants, and a free public reception will be held Saturday, March 18 from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
The guest curator will offer a free guided tour on Sunday, March 19 at 1 p.m.
Moro’s granddaughter, Christina Zuccari, will deliver a lecture on her family’s multi-generational involvement in art on Friday, April 7 at 11 a.m.
A talk and tasting event will take place Friday, April 21 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. for $25 which will feature insights into Italian enclaves and the evolution of the nation’s cuisine in America.
The museum is open six days a week, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
