WEST YARMOUTH – A forum will be held tonight inside the Mattacheese Middle School auditorium which will examine how opiate affects local schools.
Calmer Choice, the nonprofit which promotes focus and reduced stress in young students, will hold the forum to explore practices students can use to prevent themselves from getting caught up in opiate addiction.
“The Calm before the Storm” forum will feature Calmer Choice officials, community leaders and local legislators Randy Hunt and Michael O’Keefe.
The forum will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at 400 Higgins Crowell Road.
It comes amid an uproar in the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District caused by school committee member Michelle Conover, who wants Calmer Choice removed from the district. She cites a possible violation of the separation of church and state, and says the concept of mindfulness may be harmful to children.
