BOURNE – A number of prescribed burns are planned for Camp Edwards this week, meaning smoke could be seen coming from the base from time to time.
Firefighters will practice their skills in battling wildfire conditions. Local, state, and federal officials are taking part in the drill.
The burns in the southern part of the camp are scheduled to last until Friday.
Officials say the burns also have added ecological benefits, including habitat management. Camp Edwards is home to 37 different species of plants and animals.
