SANDWICH – Voters in Sandwich head to Special Town Meeting tonight and will be asked to approve a tax deal the town has struck with the owners of the Canal Generating Plant.

The agreement would bring the town $57 million in tax revenue over 21 years from a proposed natural gas and oil turbine at the facility. Plant owners NRG Energy want to have the 330-megawatt turbine in place by 2019.

Voters will also consider funding a $1.1 million restoration of the Clark-Haddad building and will vote on $163,000 in repairs to the air conditioning system at Sandwich High School.

Other articles include funding for maintenance at the Sandwich Hollows Golf Club and new equipment for the Sandwich Fire Department.
