Canal Run for the Troops Coming to Buzzards Bay on Saturday

BUZZARDS BAY – Cape Cod Cares for our Troops is hosting a 5K and 10K run this weekend to support and honor current and veteran members of the U.S. military.

Proceeds from the Canal Run for the Troops will go to support deployed troops, military veterans and wounded military servicemen and women.

Specifically, the money raised this year will help pay the postage fees of over 1,200 Christmas Care Packages, host a Christmas Party for Fort Belvoir’s wounded warriors and their families, as well as support local veterans.

Cape Cod Cares for Our Troops was started in 2005 by then 12-year-old Dylan DeSilva. The organization says that Dylan wanted to find ways to honor U.S. troops for their service, dedication, and sacrifices made for the country. They say he’s sent over 29,000 care packages to deployed U.S. troops and has supported countless veterans since then.

The race will also honor SSGT Stephen Sprague of Yarmouth.

Registration starts at 10:00 a.m. with the race beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Advanced registration is $25 while registering at the event is $30.
