HYANNIS –  An annual candlelight vigil that raises awareness about Cape Cod’s ongoing opioid crisis will take place Saturday evening on the Hyannis Village Green.

The event is hosted by the group Parents Supporting Parents, an organization that helps those with children dealing with drug-related issues.

The ceremony takes place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Those who attend are encouraged to bring photos of loved one who have been impacted by the epidemic. Those in recovery are also asked to attend.

The AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod will be on hand to provide Narcan training.

“Our hearts go out to the families who have lost a loved one to opioid addiction,” said Joe Carleo, CEO of the Aids Support Group of Cape Cod.

The region has seen overdose rates higher than the rest of the state in recent years.
