Cape and Islands Receive $1.6 Million for Homeless Programs

barnstable county symbolHYANNIS – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recently awarded the Cape and Islands $1.6 in Continuum of Care (CoC) competition funding awards to continue programs which help the homeless.

The funding will support a dozen programs that provide housing to more than 140 formerly homeless individuals and families.

CoC funding also aided the January effort to count the number of persons in emergency shelters, transitional housing programs and living unsheltered on the streets, the results of which will be presented later this spring.

The $1.6 million is a 12 percent increase over the 2015 funding award.
