Cape Cod Art Center Celebrates Seven Decades

BARNSTABLE – The Cape Cod Art Center was established in 1948 when a number of artists wanted to open an art gallery for exhibits, classes and getting together.

Now the group is celebrating seven decades with a full year of exhibitions reflecting various pivotal points of their history.

The present exhibit titled “One Building, Many Artists” runs through the fall, reflecting on the organization’s original Hyannis location and highlights some of the more well-known Artist Members.

The collection includes many paintings, images, and photographs collected specifically for the showing from private collections, and from center members – both past and present.

Moving forward, Roberta Miller, Executive Director of the Cape Cod Art Center, said that they have a lot of plans.

“We’re hoping to expand the building and double its size because our membership has grown so greatly were almost at a thousand members now,” she said.

“We would like to provide some more classroom spaces for them and more places to exhibit.”

Miller explained that the organization is currently in a capitol campaign in order to complete infrastructure projects, which she expects will continue throughout the anniversary year.

As part of the 70th anniversary, the Cape Cod Art Center will also be hosting a Birthday Bash Reception July 7 from 2PM to 6PM.

The event will celebrate the Incorporation of the Cape Cod Art Association and the opening of their current building. For more information visit CapeCodArtCenter.org
