Cape Cod Art Center Celebrating 70 Years with Mini-Exhibitions

BARNSTABLE – A series of mini-exhibitions throughout the year will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Cape Cod Art Center, formerly known as the Cape Cod Art Association.

“At 70: Still Learning, Still Creating” will feature new displays each quarter.

The first exhibition, “Defining Dreams, Changing Places,” was installed last week and runs through March 28.

The display documents the art group’s nomadic years in Hyannis as founders and members moved to ever larger spaces while hotly debating the competing practices of “traditional” objective and “modern” abstract painting.

The 70th anniversary lobby exhibits have been researched, edited and curated by board member Rebecca Lawrence of Centerville, with help from several other volunteers and Art Center staff.

The Cape Cod Art Center is located on Route 6A in Barnstable and is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

All exhibitions are free and open to the public.
