HYANNIS – Twenty former Cape Cod Baseball League players were selected in the first three rounds of the Major League Baseball draft on its first day of drafts.
In the first round alone, 12 had played in the Cape Cod Baseball League.
The league is waiting to see if the number of players in this year’s draft will surpoass the 2011 record of 258. Last year, 208 players were picked up in the draft.
The highest-placed former Cape Cod Baseball player was University of Indiana catcher Kyle Schwarber.
Schwarber, a 2012-13 veteran of the Wareham Gatemen was selected fourth by the Chicago Cubs.
