FALMOUTH – The Cape Cod Center for Women will honor Plymouth and Barnstable Barnstable State Senator Vinny deMacedo with the Beacon of Hope Award at their fourth annual Jeans and Jewels Jubilee on Saturday.
The group, which operates the only emergency domestic violence shelter, is hosting the event at the Sea Crest Beach Resort in North Falmouth.
It will feature a live and silent auction, survivor stories and musical entertainment.
Founded in 2000, the Cape Cod Center for Women operates their full-time emergency shelter 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.
“Right now our house can take four families at a time, which is not enough, we turn away between 45 to 60 families every single month that is seeking safe shelter from domestic violence,” said Center Executive Director Diane Pratt.
Since opening its doors nearly 16 years ago, the CCCW has provided safe shelter to over 600 families fleeing domestic violence.
Pratt said that the shelter is very busy throughout the year.
“They’re coming from all over, we also take them from any place in Massachusetts or all across the country, but the problem is that we’re always full, so we hardly ever have an opening,” said Pratt.
