Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce Holds Annual Meeting

cape cod chamberSANDWICH – Issues that saw movement over the past year were the focus of the 94th annual meeting of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce Tuesday night at Heritage Museums and Gardens in Sandwich.

The chamber discussed developments on the Canal Area Transportation Study.

“The Baker administration, who had previously put a pause on the canal area transportation study, hit the start button again which is just going to move us closer to that issue of getting replacement bridges designed and constructed over the canal,” said Wendy Northcross, the CEO of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce.

The 208 water quality plan also saw movement through approval from Governor Charlie Baker and the Environmental Protection Agency. Northcross said she is pleased to see that movement.

“It’s something we have been working on for years to make sure Cape Cod’s water is clean and our property values are high and our proposition as a vacation destination stays strong,” she said.

The chamber celebrated the election of Olive Chase from the Casual Gourmet as the chair of the board and Kenneth Smith from Red Jacket Resorts as the vice chair.

The chamber also celebrated the 20th year of the Cape and Islands license plate program.

“That’s been a tremendous boost for economic development and tourism promotion on Cape Cod and the Islands,” Northcross said.

Northcross said right now the economy is strong.

“I think if we have a challenge in the next year or two it will be finding enough workers for all the jobs that are available now,” she said. “I hear some people talking about ‘we need more jobs’ well I think we have a lot of jobs and we now need to make sure that the ones available are well stocked with talented people.”

She said that will be a challenge for the region.
