Cape Cod ‘Complete Count Committee’ Formed to Prepare for 2020 Census

BARNSTABLE – The Cape Cod Commission has partnered with the Town of Barnstable and Barnstable County to create the Cape Cod Complete Count Committee in anticipation of the 2020 Federal Census.

Cape Cod Commission Executive Director Kristy Senatori wants to make sure that local residents are properly accounted for next year.

“We’re trying to increase awareness, really, about the importance of responding to the 2020 Federal Census,” Senatori said.

Notably, the Federal Census sets population estimates for the next decade. It also creates the basis of elected representation and funding for federal and state programs.

The Cape Cod Complete Count Committee was created in July at the OneCape Summit. Senatori joined Barnstable Town Manager Mark Ells and County Administrator Jack Yunits as co-chairs.

Along with the new committee, training for municipal leaders and staff will be conducted September 11 at 11 a.m. at Barnstable Town Hall in Hyannis.

The training will be facilitated by the Regional Office of the U.S. Census and the Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth.

“As a regional planning agency for the region, it makes sense to ensure we really have an accurate count,” Senatori said.

“And so, this training will provide an overview of the process and methods for communicating and sharing information.”
