Cape Cod Foundation Announces First David Willard Scholarship Recipients

HYANNIS – Caleb Sonnabend of Centerville and Taylor Walsh of Brewster have been announced as the first recipients of The David Willard Cape Cod Technology Council STEM Scholarship Fund of The Cape Cod Foundation.

The scholarship fund, named in honor of long-time CCTC Board Member David Willard, was established with the Foundation in 2017 to support high school seniors planning to major in a STEM field at Cape Cod Community College.

Sonnabend is a recent graduate of Barnstable High School, where he was a member of the sailing team and Vice President of the Barnstable Youth Commission, an arm of the Barnstable Town Council charged with addressing concerns of youth.

Walsh earned her diploma from Nauset Regional High School, where she was a member of the Nauset Key Club, a community service organization. Both students received a $500 scholarship award.

“We want to encourage and enable students to pursue careers in these fields,” said Bert Jackson, CCTC Board President. “We also want to recognize students, like Caleb and Taylor, who have been active in the community.”

The CCTC, established in 1996, is a membership-based, events-oriented, nonprofit organization promoting technology and its understanding on Cape Cod, the Islands, and in Southeastern, MA.
