Cape Cod Healthcare Announces $250,000 in Grants

ER medical symbolHYANNIS – Nine nonprofits that benefit the local Cape Cod community were awarded $250,000 in grants this week from Cape Cod Healthcare.

Each year the hospital system distributes Community Benefits Annual Strategic Grants to address specified unmet health needs of Barnstable County residents.

The FY2015 Community Benefits Annual Strategic Grants program concentrated on two of the most pervasive and trending of the six significant health needs identified by the 2014-2016 Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital Community Health Needs Assessment Report.

Cape Cod Healthcare sought proposals for programs that would:

  • Address and positively impact specified chronic or infectious disease management or
  • Support initiatives targeted at individuals and families facing mental health issues.

This year’s grant award represents an increase of 25% over prior year’s funding. Grants were offered at two funding levels amounts – $20,000 to $30,000 and $50,000.  The $50,000 grants were reserved for collaborative, multiagency projects with regional impact.

These range from an education campaign to prevent tick-borne illness, to a project that assists individuals to manage diabetes and hypertension through nutrition education at food pantries, to supporting new counseling services for veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome and Traumatic Brain Injuries, to programs that provide mental health consultation and mindfulness training for children and youth in classrooms across Cape Cod.

The nine organizations awarded this year’s grants are:

  • AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod
  • Alzheimer’s Family Caregiver Support Center, Inc.
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & Islands
  • Calmer Choice
  • Cape and Islands Veterans Outreach Center
  • Cape Cod Child Development
  • Cape Cod Cooperative Extension
  • Cape Cod Hunger Network
  • YMCA of Cape Cod

“Cape Cod Healthcare is extremely pleased to award our FY2015 Community Benefits grants to nine organizations that are working so hard in the areas of education, treatment and prevention programs in our region,” said Theresa Ahern, Senior Vice President, Strategy and Government Affairs. “By joining together, we can help significantly improve the health and well-being of our community.”
