Cape Cod Healthcare Awards $3,000 To Ask A Nurse

HYANNIS – Cape Cod Healthcare has donated 3,000 dollars to The Public Health Nursing Division, and the funds will be allocated to the “Ask a Public Health Nurse” initiative.

“By working with food pantries and other partner organizations, this program helps us reach individuals in communities across cape cod who might not otherwise have regular access to health services”, said Barnstable County Public Nurse Deidre Arvidson.

The Ask a Public Nurse initiative was developed in 2012 by the Barnstable County Public Health Nursing Division after receiving a grant by united way to provide health services to consumers at food pantries.

Nurses currently spend over 70 hours a month at 22 participating locations. Services offer include blood pressure readings, glucose screenings, health information, flu shots, and other health resources.

“Anybody can go to those sites, and get a free blood pressure check or if they have a medication question or any other health question we will certainly try and answer those”, said Arvidson.
