HYANNIS – Cape Cod Healthcare’s Blood Donor Center is issuing a Zika advisory.
The organization says that their Donor Services is fully compliant and up to date with Federal Food and Drug Administration guidelines for the Zika virus.
The center is adding a question on the blood donor questionnaire asking if they have traveled to Zika-active sites and are handing out pre- and post-donation information about the virus to anyone that donates blood.
Anyone who answers yes to a Zika virus-related question is asked to wait 28 days before returning to donate blood.
The areas affected by the virus are Mexico, any Caribbean nation, and Central and South America.
Anyone who has donated blood recently and developed symptoms of the virus are asked to immediately contact the Blood Center so that their blood can be quarantined.
The most common symptoms of the Zika virus infection are fever, rash, joint pain, pink eye, muscle pain and headaches.
