Cape Cod Hoarding Task Force to Host Workshops

BARNSTABLE – The Cape Cod Hoarding Task Force will be hosting self-help workshops to support people struggling with excess clutter in their homes.

Erika Woods, Chair for the Cape Cod Hoarding Task Force, explained how hoarding can be detrimental to ones health.

“These individuals get to a point where maybe there’s excess mold…or they have a hard time getting around in their homes because there’s tripping hazards, or maybe items are stacked so high that it might fall on them,” Woods said.

The workshops last approximately 14 sessions and are based on the book Buried in Treasures: Help for Compulsive Acquiring, Saving and Hoarding by David F. Tolin and Gail Steketee.

All ages are welcome to attend.

“It’s a very small group,” Woods said.

“Generally there’s eight to, maybe, fourteen people in the group, so that you get to know everybody and everybody supports each other.”

Workshops will be held in Falmouth and Yarmouth starting in mid-September, and in Provincetown starting mid-October. Attendees must register before attending.
