Cape Cod Military Support Foundation Planning Annual Pot of Gold Event

FALMOUTH – The Cape Cod Military Support Foundation’s annual Pot of Gold Sunday will take place again next month.

The foundation provides programs and services to military families assigned to Joint Base Cape Cod and the U.S. Coast Sector Southeastern New England.

The proceeds from this fundraiser go to their Children’s Fund, part of the Family Services Program.

It takes place on March 10 beginning at 11 a.m.

The event will also help make up funds used to feed military and Coast Guard families during the recent partial government shutdown.

Executive Director Don Cox said the monies raised at this event go a long way.

“We raise enough money in one day to be able to host a Christmas party for 800 children, provide 2300 backpacks for children going back to school in September, have a Halloween parade and party, an Easter egg hunt and a family skate on Veteran’s Day,” he said.

The foundation recently opened an Empowerment Center at Joint Base Cape Cod that provides basic supplies.

“It’s a baby pantry, it has personal hygiene products, it has clothes for moms and dads, it has clothes for kids,” said Cox

“It has food operation which we call a canteen, we don’t call it a pantry,”

The Pot of Gold will take place in Falmouth at the Cape Club starting at 11:00 A.M.

Cox points out that many families just need a little help to keep them afloat.

“We provide aid and assistance to families in need.  If they need a hand up with say a rent payment or an insurance payment.  It’s tough for a lot of these young families to be here on the cape with the cost of living.”

The purchase of a $100 ticket entitles guests to a huge buffet and enters them into a raffle with six prizes, including $10,000 in cash.
