DENNIS – The Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis will continue its ARTfull Thursday programs next month with a talk by artist Jay Critchley.
Critchley is a conceptual, multi-media performance artist, writer and activist who creates controversial art which takes ironic jabs at capitalism, democracy and the media.
He will show photos of his work, talk about his ideas and invite discussion at the museum on November 8 at 6 p.m.
Critchley will discuss “The Whiteness House,” a 14-foot-long tarred and feathered installation recently created at an artist residency at the Santa Fe Art Institute. The piece raised questions of race, whiteness and politics.
He will also talk about ideas raised from his recent TEDX Talk, “Portrait of the Artist as a Corporation.”
He said his job as an artist is to look below the surface to find a deeper meaning and action.
Over the years, Critchley has addressed topics that include AIDS, America’s car culture, sewage and nuclear energy.
The talk is $12, and $10 for museum members.
