DENNIS – The Cape Cod Museum of Art is partnering with Zion Union Heritage Museum to celebrate Black History Month in February.
Several of Zion’s resident artists will be featured in in the exhibit which runs from February 1 through March 24 at the Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis.
The acting director of the Cape Cod Museum of Art Benton Jones says the museum is excited to shine the spotlight on the through-provoking pieces from the Zion artists that detail the unique history and contributions of people of color to the Cape.
The exhibit curated by Michael Giaquinto features artwork from Michael Alfano, a figurative and surrealist sculptor; figurative oil painter Sean Cassidy; and retired art teacher Pamela Chatterton Purdy, who has created a portrait series of 37 “Icons of the Civil Rights Movement.”
Others featured include abstract artist Joseph Diggs; retired art department head of Barnstable High School Carl Lopes; Robin Joyce Miller, a mixed media collage artist; and Claudia Smith-Jacobs, a multimedia artist.
An opening reception for the exhibit was held on Friday.
