WELLFLEET – On October 26 at 10 a.m. join Cape Cod National Seashore Historian Bill Burke for “Archaeology at the Baker-Biddle House”, a brief talk and walk through the Baker-Biddle House grounds in Wellfleet.
The program, which is free and open to the public, is part of Massachusetts Archaeology Month held annually each October.
The Baker-Biddle House dates from 1795, and was only recently acquired by the National Park Service.
Archaeological investigations in 2012 uncovered a rich collection of prehistoric and historic artifacts from years past.
During this walk and talk, Burke will relate the types of artifacts that were recovered, and what they tell us about the people of the Outer Cape.
The tour meets at the parking area for the Atwood Higgins House, located on Bound Brook Island Road in Wellfleet.
Participants will carpool from there and the program runs rain or shine.
Cape Cod National Seashore Superintendent George Price said that the “archaeology and history of the Baker-Biddle property offers a fascinating glimpse into the earliest inhabitants of the site”.
Begun in 1992 as Archaeology Week, Massachusetts Archaeology Month is a month-long celebration of archaeology in Massachusetts and around the world.
Museums, libraries, archaeologists, and other institutions host exhibits, lectures, walks and events for adults, children and teachers.
