Cape Cod Pathways Hosts Walking Weekend

Walking01BARNSTABLE – For the past 20 years, Columbus Day Weekend on Cape Cod means Walking Weekend.

There are 17 walks scheduled this weekend with opportunities to explore the Cape’s beaches and woods on foot, led by volunteer walk leaders.

The walks are free and feature public and private conservation lands around the Cape.

“It’s an opportunity to get out and participate in a walk led by someone who knows where they’re going and knows a lot about the area and get some exercise,” said Cape Cod Commission Natural Resources Specialist Heather McElroy.

Walks start this morning at 9 a.m. at the Santuit Preserve in Marstons Mills; 10 a.m. at the woods to Great Marsh in Barnstable and the Little Cliff Pond in Brewster; and at 2:30 p.m. at Fort Hill in Eastham.

Tomorrow at 9 a.m. participants can walk 2 miles along the Pamet Valley in Truro and at 10:30 a.m. can go for a seaside stroll along Coast Guard Beach in Eastham.

Walks continue in Provincetown, Cotuit, Eastham, Barnstable and Truro on Sunday and in Mashpee and Harwich on Monday.
