CCRTA Completes Major Upgrades, Solar Project

HYANNIS – The completion of an extensive $1.6 million construction project at the Hyannis Transportation Center is expected to reduce the facility’s carbon footprint energy demand by 93 percent.

The work included the major redesign of the bus bays and vehicle parking area, and the addition of bus and vehicle solar canopy structures.

The construction project involved a public and private partnership that included funding from the Department of Transportation and the Department of Energy Resources.

The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority also added 20 electrical vehicle charging stations fully funded through an Eversource grant program.

The CCRTA moved and expanded its bus bay canopies and added parking lot canopies at the Hyannis Transportation Center to accommodate the installation of rooftop solar panels on the canopy structures.

There are three canopies in total, two bus canopies which increase the total number of bus bays from 12 to 18, and 1 vehicle parking lot canopy, which provides 20 sheltered parking spaces.

There are also non-solar related benefits such as bus flow efficiency, customer convenience upgrades, increased lighting and customer walkways to buses, providing enhanced drop off and pick up convenience.

There is also an upgraded CCRTA camera system.
