Cape Cod Residential Building Activity Dips Slightly

CENTERVILLE – There was a slight dip in residential building activity on Cape Cod last month, according to the latest statistics from the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Cape Cod.

There were 435 building permits issued in Barnstable County in May, down from 452 in May of 2017.

The total value of the work was just over $27 million, down from the more than $37 million spent at the same time last year.

The vast majority of the projects were remodeling efforts, with 403 permits issued in May of 2018. The total value of the work checked in at just under $16 million, down from $22 million spent last year on 409 projects.

Homeowners on the Cape spent $11 million on 32 new construction projects last month. In May 2017, 39 new builds were completed at a total value of $14.8 million.
