HYANNIS – Cape Cod Shelter and Domestic Violence Services is holding their third annual Candlelight Vigil on Friday in Falmouth
State Representative David Vieira, Barnstable County Sheriff Jim Cummings and Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe will join several survivor speakers at the event at Peg Noonan Park.
“We need to have more communication about domestic violence, it should not be the secret that people do not want to talk about,” said Shelter Executive Director Diane Pratt.
The vigil begins at 6 p.m. and officials will read the names and light a candle for each victim that lost their life to domestic violence during this past year and honor those who have survived.
This month is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The organization is the only full-time emergency shelter serving victims of domestic violence on Cape Cod and the islands.
“I have heard some unbelievable stories all across Cape Cod and the Islands and many people say domestic violence doesn’t happen on Cape Cod, but it does happen on Cape Cod, it could be happening next door to you,” said Pratt.
