Cape Cod Toy Library to Host Screening of New Mr. Rogers Documentary

DENNIS – The Cape Cod Toy Library will be hosting a special kick-off event at the Cape Cinema in Dennis Wednesday. The start-up toy library will be hosting a screening of the new film “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”

The documentary film follows the career of Fred Rogers, a Christian minister, puppeteer, writer and producer who created and starred in the public television program Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood for more than three decades.

Following the screening a panel of community experts on nurturing children’s social-emotional development and curiosity will help facilitate a discussion about the importance of play.

The event marks the first major fundraiser for the proposed toy library, set to be located in Harwich, which seeks to provide a playful literary environment for families with young children where they will have access to toys, books, and other learning materials.

The effort is spearheaded by Chatham resident Deborah Willsea, who co-founded a similar institution in Rochester New York which has been going strong for more than 30 years.

“As a parent with limited income when you’re raising a family and having variety for children and options, then why not have something that can be supporting families and accessible to families as well to educators,” said Willsea.

Doors will open tomorrow evening at 6:00 pm welcoming viewers with live music, a meet and greet reception, and cash bar. Mister Rogers books will be on display, and information about play and Cape Cod Toy Library will also be available.

Tickets are $15 per person, $5.50 of each ticket will benefit the library, you can get yours at or at the Cape Cinema box office in Dennis.
