HYANNIS – Round two of the first winter storm of the season could deliver some snow to Cape Cod after the area escaped with just rain on Monday.
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for Barnstable County from 3 a.m. Tuesday until 12 p.m. Tuesday, calling for the possibility of 3 to 5 inches.
Depending on the timing of the storm, the snow could cause slippery conditions during the morning commute. Forecasters said rain could change to snow in the early morning hours with period of heavy snow Tuesday morning.
A wind advisory was also in effect until 10 a.m. on Tuesday, with winds expected out of the north at 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
High winds associated with the storm caused ferry delays and cancellations between the Cape & Islands throughout the day on Monday.
During the first part of the storm that moved in on Sunday, 12 inches of snow fell in some areas north and west of Boston and more was predicted for early Tuesday.
One of the highest totals was in the western Massachusetts community of Rowe, which picked up 16 inches of snow by Monday afternoon.
