Cape Cod Village Hires First Executive Director

ORLEANS -Susan Johnson has been named the first executive director of Cape Cod Village.

The group was founded in 2011 by the parents of a young adult with Autism.  Their goal was to create quality housing and programs for adults with Autism.

Johnson’s first project is the construction of an innovative housing community.

“What we’re looking to do is build 15 residential units and a 3000 square foot community center, ” she said.

Johnson hopes the project will be used as a national model.   She’s tackling a challenge that many adults on the Autism spectrum face as they get older.

“After they age out of the system, they need a place to go,” she said.  The time frame is to break ground early next year and have residents move in during the spring or summer of 2019.

Money for the project will come from private fundraising, grants and community preservation money.
