BARNSTABLE – The Cape Cod Wildlife Collaboration is holding its 10th annual Cape Cod Wildlife Festival. The festival is Saturday, September 7 from 10 am to 3 pm at the Mass Audubon’s Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary, 345 Bone Hill Road, Barnstable.
The event will showcase local environmental groups devoted to the Cape’s natural habitats.
These groups will present exhibits or other fun educational activities, including information from the Barnstable Clean Water Coalition, Cape Wildlife Center, Wild Care, and Whale and Dolphin Conservation, and many other Cape wildlife groups.
“The festival has really grown. When we started out ten years ago, I think we had about 150 people our first year, and last year we had over 900 people show up for it,” said Heather Rockwell, Director of Operations at the Barnstable Clean Water Coalition.
“Families can come by. It’s a free event and they can learn about all the great work that’s being done by these different organizations,” said Rockwell.
Other features include Rick the Creature Teacher who will present live animal education at 11 am and 1 pm.
“It’s great to know we’ve got a lot of support from the local community. Each of these organizations is working in some way to help either wild life, or our habitats, or our waters here in southern New England and in particular here on the Cape,” said Rockwell.
Books by the Sea of Centerville will also be hosting a book signing by local authors between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m.
Authors include Melissa Stewart — “Seashells: More Than a Home”; Gill Newton — “Mysteries of Seaweed”’; and Margaret Moncy and illustrator Serena Green – “Oskey the Osprey and the Twins’ Cape Cod Adventure”.
Food, drink, and ice cream from Cape Cod Donuts, Lewis Brothers Solar Ice Cream, and John’s Dogs and More food trucks will be available.
Live music will be performed by local band “Just Another Guru.”
